Lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) and a brash new recruit (Zac Efron) uncover a criminal plot that threatens the future of the bay. – Paramount Pictures

The newest trend in Hollywood is taking an older tv show that people liked and making a modern movie remake. Baywatch is following suit. 21 Jump Street kicked it off and it was great. Baywatch not so much. I’ve never seen the original Baywatch but I understand the basics of it. Lifeguards in slow-mo solve crimes. Going off of that Baywatch is a perfect adaptation. Honestly though if you’re fan of the original, I have no idea if you’ll like it at all.

The story for Baywatch is pretty ridiculous. Lifeguards should’t be solving crimes, police officers should be. That’s okay though because numerous times in the movie characters will say that. From what I understand the original show was far-fetched so the movie is following suit. So the story is nuts but it is funny because the characters in the movie are aware of it. There lots of slow-mo and they also poke fun at that. A lot of the humor comes from the self depreciating humor.  And then there is the dick jokes, there is hundreds of them and some hit and most don’t. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t laugh at this movie because I did. There is a lot to laugh at but there is also a lot to not laugh at. The action in this movie is also laughable but they don’t want you to laugh at it. Lots of green screen. The acting though is pretty solid. Dwayne Johnson no matter what movie, he is always good and really most of the cast was solid. The whole baywatch crew was good including Zac Efron, who I am becoming more and more a fan of.

Baywatch delivers a crazy story, meta jokes, dick jokes, cheesy action and solid acting. Oh yeah and I can’t forget boobs in slow-mo, men and women. Dwayne’s got nice pecs.

There is better movies out right now but this one isn’t really that bad. It is totally watchable and you’ll laugh. Plus its probably better than Pirates of the Caribbean.

Decent soundtrack too.

I give Baywatch a 5 out of 10, would probably watch again if it was on cable and I was flipping through the channels or it was really cheap on blu-ray and then I would add it to my collection and maybe never watch it again.

“And not a single fuck was given.”
