As the Guardians try to escape, the mystery of Peter’s parentage is revealed. – Marvel Studios

It has been awhile but just like the Guardians of the Galaxy I am back at it. Guardians of the Galaxy was one of my favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Seeing Volume 2 was a no brainer for me. Volume 2 was one of my most anticipated movies of the year and now it is here.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 reunites basically everyone from the first one. Same director/writer and same cast. We’ve got James Gunn behind the camera again. He just seems to get the cosmic side of Marvel perfect. The gang is all back, Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillian, Dave Bautista, like I said all back. The film does bring in some newcomers though. Kurt Russell plays Peter’s father Ego. Russell is totally believable as Chris Pratt’s dad. Another newcomer is Pom Klementieff as Mantis. She totally fits in with the Guardians especially with Bautista’s Drax.

I was really looking forward to this movie and wasn’t disappointed one bit. Before seeing the film I read quite a few reviews. Many of the reviews I read were not happy with the villain. The villain was not as spectacular as Wilson Fisk from Daredevil but was certainly not as forgettable as the elf dude from Thor 2. I’m confident many of the reviewers didn’t know who the main villain was. There’s two antagonists in the movie and one of them is more of a background villain meant as a set up for future films. Overall I was very satisfied with the main villain.

The story in the film was rather simple but it totally worked. When you have characters like Rocket and Star-Lord, the story isn’t as important. The story isn’t bad by any stretch. The characters are what make the movie enjoyable. This movie was full of character development which is needed when you have such a large cast. Not only did we get more development from the main characters but some less featured characters were given more to do. If you don’t love Yondu by the end of the movie, I don’t know what is wrong with you. Michael Rooker crushed it. Nebula showed just how evil Thanos is and really helped us understand her and Gamora’s relationship. Kraglin is now less of a background character and may actually be a member of the Guardians one day. The newest member of the Guardians is Mantis. She is basically lady Drax minus all the murder and knives. She doesn’t understand social interactions and is just all around awkward. Her and Drax are perfect together and provide a lot of laughs.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is definitely an action movie but it brings some serious laughs. James Gunn is excellent at blending genres like that, you can see that in many of his movies especially The Belko Experiment. As I previously mentioned Drax and Mantis brought many laughs but it is really Baby Groot who stole the show. I am a 23 year old male and Baby Groot is just the most adorable thing I’ve ever seen. He is such a naive creature and he really is a toddler. This is a completely different Groot from the first one. Groot’s simpleness brings many of the laughs. I don’t believe making Groot a baby was just a ploy to sell more toys. Baby Groot fits in with the story. Drax and Mantis weren’t the only comedic duo. Rocket and Yondu seem like the unlikely pair but they team up and their personalities are perfect together. I just have to throw this out there I do have a man crush on Chris Pratt. I think he was great in the movie. But for real he is perfect for Star-Lord, he has just the right amount of sarcasm but some how can make you love the character. He really is not 100% a dick.

The last thing everyone must be thinking is how was the soundtrack. The soundtrack for the first one was so perfect, they couldn’t possible top it. Well guess what the Awesome Mix Volume 2 totally delivers. Just like the last movie the music is a character all on its own. The soundtrack has been on repeat since it came out for me. It was perfect for the movie. I can’t wait for the Awesome Mix Volume 3.

I really liked this movie. For me the characters are my favorite and the movie delivered on that. I just had so much fun watching the movie. I can’t wait to see it again. I actually think I like Volume 2 more than Volume 1. I’ve seen Volume 1 more than 20 times but I could see myself watching Volume 2 over and over again.

I’m Mary Poppins, y’all!

I give Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 a 9 out of 10, would watch again and again and again and again.

Oh yeah by the way there is 5 post-credit scenes so make sure to stick around.
